Hi Byron - at least 1 other is interested - I was expecting a shorter count than 15 years ago ;-)
These days 20 somethings admire my car but don't know what it is - the times are different!
My car is the opposite of yours - 293,000 miles - a paint job that is so so and a small dent on the left side - I was thinking of replacing the struts before the drive as the bouncing just on springs is starting to irritate me -
I didn't know what I was missing until I had a "deju vu" moment -
I remember the Mt Hamilton drive - that road up from 5 was cool!
Remember the bizarre scene of the guy in the oncoming car waving a rattlesnake out the window?
I know - after my experience at San Simeon - my "driving requirements" sound like a fuddy duddy - but it apparently is a problem in a lot of car clubs.
A friend of mine - in the BMW club - was run off the road on a rally - and a group that started here - EuroSunday - has a problem with people driving nuts - to the point some are being asked not to show up.
I realized years ago at San Simeon with a few differences someone could have been injured or killed. Even worse, someone innocent not on the drive.
Autocrosses? Fine-
Rent a track? Fine.
Public Roads? No - not by me.
Which reminds me I am on a blog dedicated to the memory of a heck of a Navy Pilot - Carroll LeFon - went by the name of Neptunus Lex - killed just last month - but one of the videos shows an A6 taking off from Alameda - did you go on that Autocross there ? (when it was closed) - I remember how eerie it was - Using the huge runway right on the Bay - and that I beat a Ferrari by .1 - OK - it was a Mondail but still....Me and the little AW-11 had bragging rights!
If 1 wants to go or 20 I'm game - would take about 2 hours driving on the course - then lunch - then back on Hwy 12 I'll set up things and we can agree on a date if at least you are game!

Bill, I'm still here! What's it going to be, a group of two? I drove down to see the cars run at Laguna Seca a few years ago and one car, almost identical to mine, hit the wall and ended up about 2ft shorter. That made me realize that Sears Point or Thunderhill were better choices.
I didn't go on the San Simeon rally, but did go to Santa Cruz and a couple of drives up to the Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton, including one that I led, and of course I was there for your rally through the Delta many moons ago. I have so many other interests, that my car is only driven about 1K miles a year. It's up to 66K miles now and still looks like new.

If those of you from the Bay area to Sacramento want a drive?
I've been organizing "First Sunday Drives" for my other club and I was thinking of doing one in reverse, starting from Fairfield (for an easy meet from the Bay area) - going down Montezuma Rd to Rio Vista (where Clint Eastwood made a movie) - through Rio Vista - use 2 of the smallest ferry boats (4-6 cars) across some sloughs, past the Grand Island Mansion - which - despite its isolation - scene of some big Hollywood parties in the 20s - lessee - back down the river and lunch at Moores Riverboat? That will put you on Hwy 12 and an easy drive back to the Bay Area.
My only requirement - driving within the speed limit.
I sponsored a drive to San Simeon some years ago (how many years ago was that Byron?) and with the frivolity there were speeds of 120 on some isolated roads. One guy ran into a tree and we (as a group) ran a woman off the road (fortunately there were no injuries).
I don't need that these days...
So if you are interested in going on a drive with my requirements - let me know and I'll set something up in the next few weeks...
I remember in years past we'd have 20 cars - and more - so I will be curious who's left ;-)
