Thanks Aaron.
My BGB is a 1985 and doesn't include the auto trans.
Looking over the fault finding chart doesn't give me much in the way of options for my symptoms.
I'm sure its not a cable adjustment, or parking pawl problem. I can hope it is a blocked screen. Other wise it is "torque converter"
or "internal to transmission".
Looks like the box is coming out. Sigh...
cheers
Barry

Subject: [MR2] Auto TX

I replaced the drive shaft oil seal on my wifes MK1 with auto tx this
weekend, so car back on the road after sitting for a month.

She is delighted with it, running well. I took it out yesterday, and it
performed great. Until...

I was driving it fairly spiritedly and floored it to pass a guy. Tx
dropped down a gear, accelerated well, then quit accelerating. Then I
realized I had no drive.

I coasted to the side of the road, but cant get drive in any lever
position including reverse.

Checked fluid level, its ok. Checked that the lever actually moves the
selector at the tranny. It does, and I can hear the usual mechanical
clunks as it steps through its positions.

But - no drive. Not even the slightest drop in RPM as I go from park to
drive.

It is almost like it is stuck in neutral, but as I said, the selector
mechanism is doing something inside the box.

I thought it might be the torque converter had quit, but I would not
have it expected to completely and suddenly let go like that.

Any one got any words of wisdom? (Changing it out for a 5 speed is not
an option!)

If it is internally broke (which I suspect) then anyone know where I
could get a cheap replacement?

cheers

Barry
