To those questions, I'll add one more:
5. Is the mechanic a real mechanic who knows how to solve problems, or
is he an amateur who owns some tools and bid a lower price on the job
than anyone else?
There are all kinds of reasons any car might crank on the starter but
refuse to run. Chances are that your car's problem simple human failure
to reassemble the car correctly.
We all know "mechanics" who are capable of replacing parts, but do not
know how to check for spark, ignition timing, cam timing, fuel pressure,
injector operation, compression, etc. Many of these individuals do not
have access to, or do not know how to use, appropriate tools and
publications. If this describes the person working on your car, you
will save time and money by dismissing him and finding an experienced
mechanic with problem solving skills to finish the job.
