With both my '86 and '88 SC MkI (with fiberglass lid) they need to be 
pried up with my fingers.  Sometimes I need someone to hold the latch 
while I pry.  A little WD40 usually solves the problem once I get the 
lid open.

BTW, DON'T use WD40 on the cable.  Makes it stick.
