Bob,
"Frozen" meaning the cable doesn't budge, correct? My experience is limited to MKIIs, but I wonder if opening the trunk would give you enough access to spray some lube in/at the locking mechanism. If not, can you spray lube at it from underneath? If it is still frozen post-lube, I would then access the actual cable in the passenger compartment as opposed to the plastic piece that pulls the cable and give it a good yank.
