[MR2] What happened to my fuel gauge?

I second the seafoam (from napa). Some argue that it's the only cleaning
additive that actually works...anyway, I love it. I periodically add some to
all my gasoline engines. Never had a problem until I didn't add it to my
snowblower and I let the gas tank go empty and dry over the summer...as you
might imagine it took me 2 hrs of messing with the carb before it ran again.
I remember when we were told to drain the carbs so the gas wouldn't sludge
up but I'm having better luck letting the gas sit so even if there's junk at
least it stays wet..

Almost certainly the float arm on the pump has stuck in the bottom position.
The low fuel warning is not part of the arm. It is a strange circuit which
uses a temperature sensor to figure out if it is submerged in fuel or not.
You could try adding some Seafoam to the fuel. It is excellent at dissolving
oil and fuel deposits. If that doesnt work, the only solution is to drop the
tank to remove the fuel pump assembly. It is a real PITA.
We resolved next time we have to do this we are going to cut an access panel
in the tunnel between the seats!

On all 5 of our MK1s, there is not a single fuel gauge I trust anyway. We
just fill them up when they have done 240 miles or so
cheers

It shows zero fuel. Oddly, the low fuel light is not on either. Does anyone
have a clue where I might look first? If it involves dropping the tank, I
might just live with it.
