But electric throttles? I've recently driven a Vauxhall (British GM) a
Suzuki and a Toyota with fly-by-wire throttles. They all had ever so
slight throttle lag, and I hated it.

<snip>

Years ago I was offered a nice BMW 7 series for something like $4500. The
car had retail well over $10 grand at the time.

It turns out the price was so low because the drive by wire system was
messed up and the BMW dealership suspected it was both the throttle body
unit and the unit at the accelerator. These parts were something north of
$2500 if you needed to replace both. If that wasn't bad enough, it turns
out that the electronic rear struts were both bad and the time these
retailed for something like $1200 each.

Back then, I verified the prices to be a bit pessimistic but a $10,000 car
needing $5000 in parts for $4500 didn't seem to be a bargain.
