[MR2] I have a question about VVT-i cylinder heads for MR2s

the setup you are referring to is called the 'BEAMS' 3SGE. it was only
ever offered in NA setup, and if memory serves correctly, and was
offered in 4 vehicles.
1. celica
2. mr2
3. rav4 (the least power of all)
4. rs200 (stateside called the is300 with a different engine)
i'm sure you COULD (with enough time/money) take a BEAMS setup and
turbo/super charge it, but i am unaware of it ever being done.
you could, physically/technically, put a BEAMS head onto a 1st, 2nd or
3rd gen 3S block. but, then you get to deal with 'fun' custom wiring or
a stand alone ECU.
so, in short:
can it be done? yes.
should it be done? if you have DEEP pockets that are lined with silver,
gold and precious stones... why not? :)
but, honestly, you'd get far better results (power, legal, etc) if you
were to build up a 2nd gen 3sgte. while the 3rd gen is an option
(outside CA), there isnt enough of a difference between the 2nd and 3rd
gen to make the extra cost worthwhile.
