  So I unplugged the 3 prong plug and drove it around the block as a test - it seems to read in low end of the normal range, but still pegs the guage sporadically.  I thought perhaps it would run on the battery alone, unplugged.  Sounds like the wiring might be OK but a bad volt reg defintely?  TIA, Ron.
