Hello,
In my opinion, (and I do realize I do not have anywhere the amount of experience in such matters as ya'll do)Advanced Auto, Auto Zone, and O'Reilly are all good stores to get the alternator checked at.
The problem is not the store, or even the equipment that is used, but the knowledge of the people using the equipment. I have had bad experience at all the stores, and in all cases it was due to the person behind the counter.
Where ever I am stationed at, I usually ask the folks that live around me where the best one is of the three, and go there. Whichever store you trust in your area I am sure is the best place to get it checked.
Hope this helps
Jason
