[MR2] 85 alt pegged

Ron,

I had a similar problem a while ago, and the consensus on the list was that it was a bad alternator.

It was a bit wierd though - the lights would go on briefly as I passed through 5k rpm.

Then sometimes they would come on and stay on, but if I turned the ignition off briefly, (motor would stall and re-catch straight away) the lights would go out.

 

I went to replace the alternator with a spare, and found one of the wires to the connector broken. Fixed that and it has been ok since.

> Thanks Donald. It WAS tested, but it's an intermittant problem. Runs fine for a while, then pegs for 15 sec or so, then returns to normal range. Don't want to run it and fry an ecu or something. Out of good used alts and would like to maybe learn to fix some if easy enough. Cheers, Ron.
