Great write-up John! It probably would have made your life easier if Radio Shack had axial instead of radial capacitors in
stock. There's a company called Digikey that is often used by engineers to source small quantities of board level components:

If you have time, they're a better option than Radio Shack, and you should be able to get an exact replacement part.
