Sounds like the change from '92 to '93 model year; production of the '93
began in January 1992. I think the term "half-truth" is more
appropriate than "half-year". I'd love to read that Car and Driver
article to see what it actually says, and whether the author of the NRO
article you found is actually quoting it correctly. And, for that
matter, whether he had any actual performance driving training or
experience. An untrained behind the wheel of any performance car is a
liability.
