Out of the car offers a wide range of methods. Personally, I'd just use my
impact wrench. But I have a feeling you don't have a pneumatic system. I
don't know the orientation of the engine, but a friend holding a large
screwdriver in the ring gear braced against the block while you use a socket
and long breaker bar will work nicely. If you are marooned on a desert
island, a sharp blow or two to the handle of the breaker bar
(anti-clockwise) with a large mallet would probably do it. Although your
engine is not a turbo, I'm pretty sure it is a 3S-GE and will most likely
need both belt pensioners and the water pump replaced. Don't forget new
O-rings for the water pump. The procedure for tensioning the belt is on
that web site I sent.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness here. Are you beginning to wish you'd
purchased an engine from the breakers yet?
