I would not feel comfortable with the original engine unless you pulled it
down and checked everything...
I suspect you have metal shavings throughout the oil system and although I
doubt your crank is bent it really need to be checked
You might be able to pull the crank without the engine but I assume it is a
stick shift so the trans would have to come down and if you're at that point
you might as well pull the block.
As to the engine from the salvage yard... what does the odometer say? If it
was around 100K I guess it is likely to be a better engine than what you
have but I would still pull the pan, check the bearings, replace most if not
all seals, the water pump and the timing belt.
Sometimes it is better with the devil you know vs the devil you don't.
IF the salvage engine was good, you can't repair your engine for $150...
then again... it might be as bad or worse than yours.
Flip a coin... it is a gamble no matter what you do.

Subject: [MR2] Conrod 2 crank bearing problems:-(
On my mk2 1992, mr2 2000 gt i... I had a terrible knocking/rattle...
Assuming it was a bottom end bearing, i took the sump of to investigate!
I found that the shells on no1 con rod to crank bearing had overlaped
and melted:-( the engine was only run like this for 10mins and not
constantly!
There is obvious signs of heat cawS oil hole is practicaly gone and
the shell in contact with the crank is blackened!
Basicaly i need to know if the crank will be bent...otherwise can i
get away with putting new shells in?
Oh and can i get the crank out without taking engine out. And to take
engine out do i have to drop the bed?
My other option is to do an engine transplant. I do have another which
is only costing me 150 pounds, providing i take it out of car myself!
The reason for it being to Cheap is cawS i cant run it up due to it
being dp'd, and fuel lines cut. The breakers never ran it them selfs
illegedly! The car was side impacted and written off.... Has been sat
for 2 years now too!
Pls help...what should i do?
A gutted mr2 owner.
