[MR2] MkII Seat Considerations

The carpet's coming out of my '93 Turbo for a good cleaning and for running
some wires underneath, I'm waiting to find if my Toyota parts guy was able
to snag the last dead pedal available in the US to replace one that a former
owner apparently buggered up, and I'm now trying to work out the plans for
my seats.
I'd been looking at the upholstery kits provided by Katzkins,
Leatherseats.com, and Classic Soft Trim, and here's the deal: they all look
nice enough, although Katzkins seems to have more fabric choices. The plan
though, was to do a leather seat with suede inserts in the center to make
the seats less "slippery" when going around corners. As it turns out,
there's really no such thing as automotive grade suede, and what's used is a
synthetic substitute. The samples I got from Katzkin don't really look all
that "grippy," or durable either, for that matter.
All of which makes me start thinking about Recaro (or some other aftermarket
seat) again. Many of the The IMOC UK guys seem pretty loyal to the JDM
Recaros that came in some MR2s, though they're apparently now extremely
rare. They also seem to like Recaro Speeds, which apparently when mounted
with Bride Low Rise Seat Rails, provide more head room than the MR2 factory
seats. With a T-Top roof and while wearing a helmet, a little more head
room would certainly be welcomed.
Any of you guys have any experience and/or knowledge and/or opinions
about this?
Thanks,
James
