[MR2] Bad smell of fuel!

On my drive home tonight I noticed a smell of fuel:-(
I recenty put this engine in myself and am currently ironing out any
'problems'.
I think I have traced the leak to 'around' the fuel fitter area.
                               Could any of these factors contributed
to this problem...
I filled up for the first time with a higher ron fuel yesterday and on
my way home today (at 40miles into the tank) the needle started to
drop. This is obviously when I started to smell it.
                               In all honesty I was pissed off when I
left work and I dropped the clutch which resulted in I really bad
wheel spin...the arse end judedred/banged.

It is really really flooded tonight could splashed up water caused the problem?

Any ideas and previous experience/advice is appreciated
