[MR2] No MR2 Content: Advice about Radiator, Alternator, and Exhaust parts (...and another question!)

A few weeks ago, I asked the list about an alternator and radiator for the winter beater '90 Camry.

Thanks to all who responded.? Had a little life happening the past few
weeks, so didn't get a chance to report back individually.

Per Bob's recommendation, I had an indie muffler shop fix the exhaust.?
It included a new "lifetime" muffler for a small fraction of the
dealer's parts price, never mind the labor.? :-)? Much quieter now.

Liked the idea of rebuilding the alt, per Kurt's suggestion.? But, it
meant more time and hassle, and, here, at least, it was about the same
price as a pre-rebuilt one with warranty.? With everything going on, I
had an indie put in a the rebuilt "lifetime warranty" alternator??
Should last as long as we have the car (fingers crossed).? The problems
went away.

A closer inspection of the radiator showed an additional and much
larger hole.? So, the radiator was done (it was almost time to flush
out the coolant anyway).

But another problem arises...? The PS pump was replaced before winter.? Now, a
week after all the other work was finally done, the steering is
suddenly heavy and "lumpy".? It is VERY heavy at first turn, then gets
much easier, and then very hard again further in (the lumpy part).? It
is a bit worse when the car is cold.? Another odd thing is that it
doesn't? "self-center" coming out of turns: it needs to be moved back
into place....

I've been told that it needs a rack, but, this is not the failure mode
I've encountered with other racks (I drove '80s Audis).? Thoughts??

TIA.

What's so scammy about it. I could be wrong, but I think the fogs were a
standard option you could elect to refuse. And it's odd that a scammer
would also post that they wanted to buy a Ford Pantera.?

Some early 91 turbos didn't have fogs, but I don't recall ever seeing a
94 without them. Then there's the missing Turbo emblem on the trunk lid,
although that may have simply been removed.?

?

Probably an NA with a transplant motor, but you won't know without an
inspection or VIN.?

Well, VIN seems like a legitimate question, but I don't think it came with
fogs. Those look like na exhaust tips. I do have a Pantera in my garage
though. Maybe a trade coming up.?

HI guys. I'm interested in a car a little south of the SF Bay area -
anybody nearby that could have a look at it for me? I have a buddy nearby,
but he's not a car guy, and I'm in Ohio. I'd like to fly out, drive it
back. I'll consider any other hot leads on a good, solid, cheap mk1 also -
$1500 or so. Ideally a little closer to me, a tin top, 5 spd, manual
windows, CRUISE, 87 - on, or an earlier car with a C52. Off list please.
TIA, Ron. ?

I don't mean scam like a fake ad, it just doesn't look like a '94 turbo to
me. It has certain mods (front corner lamps, solid side moldings, lowered
suspension), no foglamps, and black side moldings (94 were all bodycolor).
It has a front plate holder so it's not from Michigan originally - maybe
from Canada? It's possible the Canadian cars had those lamps and no fogs.?

I can verify that '94 MR2s were never available in Canada, and as far as
I know, _all_ Canadian MR2s were required to have the fog lamps ("day
time running lights").?

?

My opinion is that this is a modified USDM '94, but a NA as someone else
suggested (the picture from the rear seems to show that there are no
"humps" on the engine lid).?

Not only did he photoshop the license plates, it also appears that he

photoshopped the left bottom hand corner of the last picture. Date maybe?

Dirk- Off the top of my head, other things that were specific to Canadian

cars versus American ones: All cars were t-top models with manual

transmissions and no airbags in 91/92.

The exhaust tips look like the same as my '91 Turbo T. I don't know all the differences in years like the rest of the group, but those tail lights look strange to me. Is there a site here somewhere that tells all the differences from year to year and model to model??
