[MR2] Mk II steering column lock pawl

I want to remove the lock pawl piece in the ignition switch/steering column lock assembly for a 91T.  Anyone know how to disassemble this assembly?  I've already removed the assembly from the car.  

It appears that I've gotta remove a small spring pin at least (which was pushed flush into a blind hole naturally) to get the back cover removed.  

Basically what I need to do is disable the pawl, but it seems much cleaner to remove it than to just drill a hole through the whole thing and bolt it in the unlocked/open position.
