Keep your fingers crossed. I had an '89 severely overheat because it
didn't have any antifreeze (used car, PO didn't add any, I didn't check,
rarely freezes here, dumb move). I nursed it home for about 10 miles,
running it until the temp gauge started to climb, then shutting it down
until it cooled off again. Initial symptom is when SO noticed huge amounts
of steam coming from the engine.
Dodged a bullet, car continued to run fine for several years. It's now
a donor car due to a hydroplaning incident.
