Re: MR2 MkII Classic Antenna Motor Problems

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your response both by email and also on the MR2 digest posting related to the Classic Antenna Problem on my '93 MkII.
Thanks also to Steve B. and Ralph H. for your input.

I look forward to your info related to availability and pricing for an antenna mast repair kit ('93 MkII w/integrated stock wing riser sleeve).

Any final height adjustment, or additional pointers to the installation and spacing process that I might have overlooked?
I know the antenna tip's O-ring does have to seat full-down when retracted, to keep moisture out of the mast sections.

I had previously reviewed MR2 documentation before I started the mast replacement activity; and am now wondering if the antenna module's internal, two-piece delron drive gear pair might also be worn preventing the full-extension and noises (although the gear set exhibited no broken teeth, and additionally the motor runs very strong with no torque stall when loaded by hand).

Talked to an office mate Friday who completed an antenna mast replacement on his Subaru STI. His experience involved having to "walk" the cable gear by hand on the exposed drum several tries, in order to jump teeth on the drum, and reach a position where he could both fully extend and fully seat the replacement mast...that seemed extreme and implies there is no slip clutch or gear slip feature in his antenna motor. Everything I've seen for the MR2 implies that only several attempt at powering the antenna on and off is all that's necessary to have the replacement mast fully seat and fully extend.

Thanks,

Colin
