Ken,

Thanks for the answer. I always wondered why so many MK2 owners had that problem. Also thanks very much for the fender liner parts. Everything went together very well.

I will keep you in mind when I do my next rebuild, my '89 SC engine. That is coming up real soon. I will be needing a bunch of parts. I haven't started my car for a long time so will have to do a complete gas tank clean. I also must fix a bunch of damage caused by a rabbit and a rat.

Maybe because less people are installing cold air intakes on the MKI, and
therefore there is less reason to remove the AFM.

An aftermarket intake is one of the first modifications most turbo owners
perform, because it is quick, easy, and relatively
cheap. (unless you end up having to replace the AFM)

Why does the MK2 AFM tempt so many people to remove the connector receptacle
mounted on the unit? The MK1 AFM connector
arrangement looks almost exactly the same and I have never heard of that
problem on a MK1. Maybe I just haven't looked hard
enough at our MK2 AFM but the connector arrangement sure looks similar. The MK2
AFM is not as accessible as the MK1. Is that
the answer?

The connector on both AFMs are held in place by a spring clip. I think it is
the same size clip for both. That spring clip is
real hard to remove on some items (early MK1 fuel injectors comes to mind).
