[MR2] 91T low idle issues - Resolved

Hey guys, I figured it out.... It was the Iridium plugs.. The non iridium piece of the plug eroded away quite a bit causing the gap to be extremely out of spec. On the highway I was having issues when trying to boost over 5psi. The car would go but I would feel some hesitation. I pulled the plugs and replaced them with a set of slightly used splitfires I had saved when I was going through spark plug trials. Engine ran smoother with the splitfires then with the standard NGKs.
Its been a while since I bought the iridium plugs but they are not the stock temp range. They are a step hotter or colder... Dont recall.
This concerns me because I have iridium plugs in the 350Z and they are not easy to get to. I have to remove a piece of cooling line and lots of other little things to get to them. So thats a 1.5 hour job if I take my time and do it right.
Thanks,
Steven
91t - thats happy now

A stock engine at idle should show 20-21" of vacuum. The more cam overlap
you have, the less vacuum you'll show and then signal from the ECU will be
skewed. I'm not sure if you can diddle with the Air Bypass Valve to get more
air in or not. If your vacuum at 3000 is not at least 10" you might have a
gross leak on the engine side of the throttle.

I have a greddy profec specII that shows vacuum. I dont know how accurate
that is. Dont have an analog gauge. What would I be looking for?

I'm thinking that the overlap of the cams might be more than the stock ECU
can handle. Although there are purportedly experts on the list who could
tell you from past experience. Do you have a vacuum gauge reading at idle,
with AC on (~ 1000 rpm), 3000 rpm?
