NASCAR engine builders often install new blocks into a tow truck or a 
run-around machine for a year. Aluminum doesn't seem to age the same so its not done. 
FWIW, iron blocks use steel torque-plates while aluminum (or aluminum heads 
on an iron block) uses aluminum torque plates at a lower torque- that you get
