Exactly. If you build a docile car that everyone can drive, it will
not teach anyone anything. That is expressly what the mk2 team was NOT
trying to do. I don't disagree with you, I just take issue with the idea
that by dumbing-down the car, one is somehow "fixing" it. Another reason
the car is too much for many drivers is the turbo-charged motor... but if
I claimed to have fixed it by swapping in a 5sfe, I'd be met with howls of
laughter, wouldn't I?
Everyone thinks they are above-average in almost every endeavor, that's
the nature of the human pschye, but if you find the mk2 is too much for
you to drive, stock, you are probably not an above-average driver.
According to the lead designer, that's exactly why they built it the way
they built it, so I think they were successful. If you don't like the car
that way, by all means change it... but don't blame the car.
