[MR2] MKII timing light

I know this was discussed a long time ago, but I'm taking the easy way in 
asking where do you find a positive power source in the engine compartment 
to hook onto?  Or is jut running a wire back from the battery positive the 
easiest?   I just had a lightbulb moment. Seems like any 12v source should 
serve to power things up?  Like my 5.5Kw hurricane generator starter battery 
sitting on the trickle charger?
