Kurt I believe when I took mine off I used a set of picks - my late friend the curmudgeonly Englishman Bob Sanigar - mechanic extraordinaire - showed me about how useful pics can be - one of those tools that you don't use them often but when you need them...

I think those grommets bake onto the aluminum over time. 

If you pull these off of course you will need new ones and might as well put a new gasket on too. 

NAPA sells them if you can't get them readily from the dealer
