Sorry to post something not MR2 related, but I'm in a bind and everyone is
always so helpful. Here in Michigan on our cold mornings ranging from -17 to
+15 F, I am not able to get the doors to latch on my daily driver ('00
Taurus). On the days it's +10 or 15 degrees I can sometimes use the shaft of
a screwdriver to move the door coupler back and forth for a while and get it
to latch at the point I need to pull the door handle and use the screwdriver
to pull the latch back into the open position. At this point it usually
means it's ready and working again. But today it's
-10 and I have sprayed the crap out of the door latch and handle latches
with deicer the best I could reach with the straw from the outside, but the
darn thing just won't latch so I can shut the door. Only solution when it
gets this bad is to let the car run with the heater on forever and
eventually the car gets warm enough for it to work again. Any ideas or
suggestions (other than the obvious which would be to drive it into a lake
and call State Farm)?? Perhaps I need to invest in a long bungee cord to
wrap around both door handles. ;) Thank you everyone in advance!!!!!!!!!!
