I met my moonlighting mechanic today - he used to be a Toyota mechanic and works for Intel now - and his friend came by who worked for one of our dealerships for 23 years - got his layoff notice last week without severance pay - just a kick in the ass and goodbye.
Now I'll tell you as I told him - in this particular dealership (as many) your experience could be supurb or feel like you really got ripped off - depending on the service writer and the mechanics working for his "team".
In fact when I had given this car to Mary Kay a few years later it wasn't passing smog - and I told her to take it to this dealer.
Well, she got a different service writer and they proceeded to throw parts at it and still not solving the problem.
$400 later Mary Kay is calling me almost in tears and I told her to just get it out of there and I'll figure it out (in fact I just put a new NAPA cat on and it was solved)
The reason I had taken my car to this dealer for so long was the service writer and this mechanic who worked with him.
So bottom line IMO - a lot of "management" just looks at the bottom line and could care less who they can - in this case they fired one of the best and kept the worst...
