Hi guys Geoff is right on, I tried the clay bar today after I read about it yesterday. Its got to be one of the best products around, really amazing. I should have added that the obvious explanation (engine overheating) was not the problem here....... I decided to change the sender and the coolant (as it was due), and the thermostat just to be 100% safe.... At the weekend I went in search of manuals. The local motor-factor thought the only Haynes Manual for the Mk1 MR2 is a US edition covering *only* 85-87 models - is this true? Is it good for an `88 UK car? I tried the local Toyota dealership for a Toyota workshop manual only to be told they were out of print - anybody know a source of these in the UK or a reliable international export source? (Both volumes) Having no manuals, I got the Toyota dealership to do the work on my cooling system - they confirmed it wasn`t overheating, changed the coolant and thermostat, but not the sender as they were OOS. Result - no change! They assured me again the car was fine to drive and put a new sender on order. The next job to attend to is a new exhaust - Toyota quote 300UKP for the real thing, but I'd be happy to consider one of the alternatives if the word on them is particulary good - any specific favourite recommendations? A little bit more noise wouldn't be unbearable... What about the SC exhaust on my NA car - how much improvement are we talking here? I would suspect that only the GZE alternators may be used with the GZE motor. The GZE alternator has most of it's electronics (making the GZE alternator just a casing and brushes) in the rear trunk, to make the alternator small enough to fit on the right-side of the engine with the a/c compressor. I would suggest however, that you simply use a fuel 'T' fitting to get the fuel to the solinoid. I am not familiar (yet) with the Nitrous Express installation, but it should be fairly straightforward to tap into the fuel line going to the rail. The fuel line need not be steel braided, just use a rubber line rated at the correct psi. Let me know how it works, I saw the system at the SEMA show in November, but have not ordered one for testing. The owners of the company are great, and seem very knowledgeable. Ok, here's an update for everyone! Friday I get: HKS Exhaust TRD Header (Chrome [I didn't ask for the chrome one]) O2 Sensor Catalytic Converter Ok, I get the stuff, and I open up the header package first. TRD didn't put anything over the holes, so the entire header was filled up with those little pink and blue styrofoam "S" shaped thingies. So, we cleared those out, went through the box, and there was no gasket. I had to get a friend to pick one up for me. So, I went to Home Depot and bought a bunch of nuts and bolts, then proceeded to my friends carport. It was about 7pm at that time, and about -6 or -7 celcius. Anyhow, we jack the car up, and put jackstands under, and start unbolting the manifold to header pipe (the one with the slinky in it). We got stuck on the last nut, the threads on the stud were screwed. The bolt ended up just sitting there spinning. We decided that we'd put that on hold and start unbolting other stuff. So, off came the mounting bolts, a few snapped but since we were replacing EVERYTHING, it didn't matter. We tried unbolting the cat and muffler from the system, but they were ceased up. So, it's a while later, we went and got something to eat, and were back to that nasty nut. We took a hacksaw blade, without the handle on it, (none of us had a dremel) and tried cutting through the bolt. By the time we started this it was around 10, and had dropped to -10 degrees. At 11 we gave up for the night and went inside. The next morning (Saturday) at 7:45 am, -7, we pulled out the Angle Grinder. We chopped the exhaust just before the Cat (to give more room), and ground that stud off. Then unbolted the manifold and pulled it out *** NOTE: REMOVE THE OIL FILTER!!!!! ***. While unbolting the manifold we noticed that we were missing the bolt that goes into the block beside piston #1. So, we ran off to home depot (when it opened, meanwhile we put the header on as best we could) and bought a #10, 1.25 pitch bolt (If anyone needs to know). We got back, finished putting the header on, and then noticed we forgot to hook up the EGR pipe. So, we had to loosen off the header, and attach the EGR, then retighten the header. Then we assembled the rest of the system (inside the house) and brought it out, and attached it. Then we were about to put in the O2 sensor, and noticed that we had the wrong one. The one Minnum gave me had the right gasket, the right box, but the wrong sensor (no flanges on it). So we put the old one on, tightened everything up etc etc and started it up. Sounded nice... the header sounds wicked in this car. So, then we gave it a bit of gas and heard a leak up between the header and the head. The leak was not THAT bad, a LOT of exhaust was still coming out the tailpipes. Even though there was a leak, we needed to get going, so I went to Minnum for the right O2 sensor, and it wasn't there yet. Aircare closed in about 20 mins. So we flew down to Aircare and were the last car to make it through. I passed. I scored really well. So, I went back to Minnum and told them that I'll trade that O2 sensor for some Plug Wires :) [I'll get them sometime later this week]. Then I ran down to an Insurance place, and got a years worth (at 1173 Cad if anyone cares). Then I went home and went to sleep. Sunday, driving around Richmond I was turning a few heads. It's not hear it half a mile away loud, it... well frankly the header makes it sound like a slightly quieter done out 5.0 Mustang (at idle). Monday morning (this morning) I get up, shower and go to work (tired as hell and I'm going skiing tonite). And about half way to work I notice the car is sitting WAY crooked, and it's making a thunk when I hit bumps. I was thinking "oh s@#$, I can't afford new shocks/coils right now". Unfortunatly, my drivers side rear tire was flat when I got to work (it's only a 15 min drive). So, I spent 20 mins outside, -8, inflating the tire, and hopefully at 3:30 when I get off work it's still full. If anyone has any q's about the installation / removal of exhaust manifolds / Headers... ask me. If anyone has an Idea on why I've got that slight leak under load, let me know (and don't say the head could be warped, I heard that from Andrew and George at Minnum). Oh, and Anyone running a TRD Header... do you have a gasket between the header and the head? I was thinking that maybe I don't need one, and that's why it's leaking.
