Read them alongside the BGB description, i.e. they're annotations. > DISASSEMBLY OF REMOVABLE ROOF- > BO46, STEP 1 (refer to BO43 as necessary) I definitely needed to refer to the picture on BO-43, the per-step pics don't show everything. > When using a towel to remove the clip for the "L" shaped release > handle, what was your technique to able to secure the T-Top from movement > while having both hands on the towel. Since both hands will be required If you can get the towel method to work, you're a better man than I! I did the whole operation on a big piece of cardboard in the living room, and I gently suggest you consider doing likewise. At the very least find someplace with plenty of room to work and no chance for the t-top to fall. (You may get off easier if you're not taking it all the way apart like I did.) I messed around with a few different bits of cloth, but I ended up using two tiny scredrivers to pop the snap ring. If you bend the plastic slightly and have good light, you can see your enemy & he will be yours. > DISASSEMBLY OF REMOVABLE ROOF- > BO46 STEP 3b & c > What concerns me the most is Toyota's Step 3b and 3c procedure: > > step b: Taping the end of the screwdriver and prying the trim piece loose. > step c: Remove the garnish piece from the roof lock claw as shown > > What was your technique for applying pressure to the trim pieces in > order to remove them from the lock claw, as illustrated in 3c? From > Toyota's illustration, it looks to be a warping motion with an > undetermined amount of applied pressure. Oh ho ho! This is the good stuff, this is where I broke my t-top plastic. It looks like you unhook the plastic from hooks on the *outside* edge, but the picture does not show the snap hooks holding the *inside* of the piece! (In this case "inside" means "towards the center of the car" and "outside" means "away from the center of the car", as if the t-top were installed.) This is IMO a key omission; none of the pictures show these hooks. The text is almost right, though. First pop off the little plastic handle from the "roof knob", as labeled in BO-43. As I recall this was a simple brute force operation; the plastic bit had a little internal snap/spring thingy holding it onto the metal post. Then use a screwdriver and gently pry between the main glass area and the t-top plastic. At first pry gently all along the length to find where it's held down; as I recall there are 2 clips more or less evenly spaced. (I too may be spaced, there may only be one, but I think there were two.) Once you find these clips, you can pry with more force right near them. They should pop pretty easily. Having done, the plastic should pretty much fall off; at worst you may need to bend it to clear the two hooks that *are* shown (second diagram on BO-46, one near each thumb.) I spent easily 45 minutes trying to get the plastic over those hooks w/o knowing there were snap hooks on the other side! The rest of the procedure was pretty much as shown in the book, and pretty obvious even w/o the book. I kept stripping it down til I could apply black silicone goop... The t-top no longer leaks, but now other places do. Ah well. Best of luck to you. The main plastic cover should come off very easily, IF you have undone all the hooks/clips. If you've having to force it much at all, there's probably something that I missed or you missed. If you're still stuck, write back & I'll find time to actually redo the operation, instead of writing from memory. A couple weeks ago i put on new rotor, cap, My car has a very similar sounding problem, but in a less serious way; it'll only stall on some *hot* starts, and if you keep the revs up for a few seconds it's fine. I thought it might be fuel related, since the first few times I had less than 1/4th tank of gas, but then it did it a couple times when full. I suspect it's the EGR valve, thanks to Adrian Black over on T-M who described a very similar problem, that ended up being the EGR valve stuck open. I have other things to fix first, since it rarely shows this problem, but you might want to look into this possibility. And then tell me how you fixed it! ;) Chris C. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Jan 1998 23:36:15 -0600 From: Andrew Adams Subject: RE: MR2 Malibu Rallye & Cheapie-Cheapie Tires I've been promised a 30K treadwear guarantee on my Dunlop SP8000s from the local NTBhere in Houston. I like them 90% as much as the AVSis. 90% the tire for 33% of the cost means I'll keep right on buying them as long as the guarantee holds. I can confirm that Trust Japan has the manifold, and it is for the MR2 Turbo (SW20, 3S-GTEU). It is mandrel bent tubing, with a fitting for the external wastegate, and is for a TD-06 turbo. List (catalog) price is 170,000 Yen. Depending on the exchange rate....it looks to be a higher price than you thought. Also, I'm not sure if GReddy USA has the manifold, but I could find out for you. So far so good, except for one problem....how to get fuel to the solenoid. For those unfamiliar with NItrous Express' setup, you have 2 solenoids, 1 for nitrous and one for fuel, they are added at the appropriate ratio to produce a determined amount of HP. The fuel side of the system is designed to tap into the fuel rail, usually at a schrader valve, but I just noticed that my MR2 doesn't seem to have a damn schrader valve...in the Toyota repair manual it shows a picture of a fuel pressure guage hooked up to the cold start injector port on the fuel rail. This is a possible source, but I don't want to disable the cold start injector (unless it is deemed totally unnecessary). The second part of the problem is that the only connections on the Toyota fuel rail are banjo fittings. Where do I get a steel braided banjo fitting equipped line made? is it possible to "stack" the two banjo fittings to allow use of the cold stat injector? Thanks in advance, Aaron 91 NA ------------------------------ End of mr2-digest V2 #96
