The only way to connect directly to the Toyota radio is by using what we call a "Smart Switcher" at my stereo shop (I'm sure they're availabe elsewhere). We use a CD changer with RCA output and an FM modulator control kit along with a special plug that goes directly into the auxillary input on the back of Toyota tape decks. When you turn the changer on it trips the aux input and lets the sound from the RCA output come through the stereo. We use Sony CD changers for this. If you have more questions let me know! We ge hit with stamp duty on all new vehicles and a high sales tax. And we get stung on insurance. A 1997 Bathurst with ABS. and LSD, stung me for $55,000 AUS. I think that works out to around $35,000 US . The way the Aussie dollar is going the will probably become more expensive. Insurance stung me for $2000. You guys do get it good with prices... I have billions of mr2 messages that I'm trying to catch up with. Today on my way to the store I passed a used car dealership with an almost new Mustang Cobra (3,600 miles) I absolutely hate these cars and their overconfident Pony Car drivers as well. I was bored so I took it out for a test drive. The clutch required an inordinate amount of pressure as did the break pedal. I couldn't tell if I was shifting into third or fifth. The power was unimpressive. I think a mr2T running with stock boost and a poor ignition system would still eat this car up. All in all the car performed much worse than I thought it would. I can't beleive Ford gets 30k for it. I'm supposed to test drive a 97 Z28 tommorow so I'll let you know how that goes. Brian ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 18:32:32 EST From: Bsp81 Subject: MR2 Anyone know about Supras I met some guy today at the carwash who had a 97 Supra turbo. He had it pretty modded up but didn't seem to know that much about the mods he did. I asked him how much boost he was running and was surprised when he told me 23psi. He told me that stock was around 11psi. I asked him if he had sufficient fuel for that much boost. He didn't know what I meant which concerned me. Do any of you know how much a Supra can safely boost without going too lean? He has an aftermarket intake, exhaust, fcd, removed cats, etc and the car only has 7k on it. I talked to Mike Pittelkow who used to do the faq and he offered to hand it over to me which I gladly accepted. Apparently, his new job is taking up most of his time and thus he doesn't have time to update it anymore so I volunteered and after an "interview" of sorts, he told me it was mine. Fortunately, he still owns his 2. For those who haven't checked in a while, the thing hadn't been updated since 6-96. Hopefully, I will have some time this weekend to do some work to it. Also, if anyone has any requests, etc. feel free to email me. Finally, one more side note. I decided to set up my own domain. It is going to be devoted to you guessed it, the mr2. It won't try to compete with mr2.com, twosrus.com, or mr2sc.com but rather, supplement them. It will mainly focus on owners and their cars, gatherings, so on and so on. At that time my email address will change too. I'm not going to post the address yet as I don't want everyone to try and go there and see that it isn't up but I will post it next week. If you would like to put something on it, feel free to drop me a line. Thanks! They have heard about or seen most of the scams and rip offs, this may be because using UPS to rip someone off doesn't necessarily constitute "mail fraud" , not that it's not still illegal. My personal experiences have been very good, In selling shifter boots, I haven't gotten any bad checks yet. Though that might be because I've only sold these to list members so far. I do recommend waiting until the check shows up, as sometimes people change their minds. ;-) Ken 91T ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 17:13:10 -0800 From: "Kowalski" Subject: MR2 MKI SC - Tach Idle Bounce Hi, I'm new to the digest thread and I enjoy reading all of your comments on this or that. I have a question about my newly acquired 88 SC. When I got the car... after it warmed up when I came to a stop the tach would drop to normal 600-800rpm at idle. within a few seconds the rpm would drop suddenly to 200-300rpm and about half the time the car would stall! I changed the air filter (not too dirty) and installed new plugs (also not to bad) and the problem hasn't come back. Occasionally though the bounce is still noticeable (but not very often and not very bad). Did I just bypass a deeper problem? I read in the digest about a guy with a bad fuel pump who had what seed like a similar problem. Any Comments? Joe K. Michelle's 93T (44k miles) had a strange occurrance tonight. She got in it to come home from work and the power steering didn't work. The idiot light was on and there was no assist. It has never done this before. After she got it home I checked the fluid level and it was fine. (Idiot light still on, no assist) The power steering started working when I tried it, ONLY if I revved the engine, immediately after starting the car, before turning the wheel . If I tried to turn the wheel without revving, the idiot light came on and there was no assist again until I shut the car off, restarted, and blipped the gas again. After several start/stops, the car seems to be almost normal. The power steering is working and the idiot light stays off. What's up? It does seem as if the power steering is bogging the engine down at idle a bit. The interior lights dim and the revs drop when you turn the wheel. Power steering pump going bad?
