People refuse it (because they changed their mind) or just don't pay for it and let it be returned (because they never wanted it in the first place), then you're out the cost of shipping (plus the COD charge). Well, Toyota would be a good place to start. Retail is about $1800, and if you play one dealer off another you can get it down to $1400-$1600. Figure a trans rebuild is about $2200, so why no just buy new, and get new quality? Another possibility is > the JVC 12 changer but I haven't done exact measurements for them. With the Mk I, if mounting into the glove box be careful of depth of the cd-changer. I had an Alpine 6-disc changer in a Mk I for a while in the glovebox, facing up. I had to tilt the changer towards the front of the car because it was touching the air distribution vent under the glovebox, in order to close the glovebox lid. I think it was a 5950(?), not a very big unit, but do try to get the smallest changer you possibly can. The reason I ask is that I noticed the green "cruise" light illuminated. Naturally, I'm assuming that you achieved 189, hit the cruise and just let her hum for a while at that speed :-). David P. Yeah in my '93 I ended up cutting that washer (that holds the shift boot) and cutting about 1/2" off so I could mount my momo-superanatomic lower. Of course I'm not using the screw-on cover thingy that covers the screw holes on the bottom of the knob so I can mount it lower too.. Gotta find a nice way to mount the boot to it.. However in Germany lately new car prices seem to be comparable (with the exchange rate). However used prices are much more. My mother used to have a little 280SL - you rarely seem tham on our roads anymore and someone said a lot were sold back to Germany. I remember seeing a 1988 BMW 750I (the V12) on a used car lot in Germany - price was over DM 40,000 - here the same car would be maybe $12,000? So that'd be maybe DM18,000. Interesting. How do you guys in Australia & NZ afford new cars? I'd think a new MR2 would be what, $50,000 or more? Bill William L. Brandt wbco@wbco.com Sacramento, CA ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 13:20:03 -0500 From: "Burns, James B." Subject: MR2 TRD Brake Lines and MKII NA Headers I called TRD today to order some stainless brake lines for my '91T. The catalog says that these would be available Dec. 97, but they aren't ready yet. He said probably early February. These will be direct bolt-in replacements with Goodridge fittings, and they've had some delays in order to get them to fit exactly like the stock lines. I also asked whether it was true that they are developing a header for the MKIINA. He said that yes, it is true, and that they hope to have a complete exhaust system to go with it. They are now working on the headers for the trucks, and when those are done then they will develop them for the MKIINA. He said expect them around June. We'll see. Another new change is that if you want to buy TRD parts or merchandise, you have to order them through your local Toyota dealer, not from TRD. The exception is if you are in the TRD contingency program and want the discount prices, then you order directly from TRD. To qualify for this deal, you have to register with them as racing a Toyota in one of their specified series. SCCA ProSolo2 counts, as does national SCCA club racing. Unfortunately, regional SCCA club racing does not count, so the guys with ITS and ITA MR2s are out of luck, and my regional racing in SSB doesn't count. Fortunately, I have a ProSolo license which qualifies me for the program. A benefit from having to order TRD parts through your local dealership is that it will help insure that the parts are of the highest quality. Since the parts may be installed at the local Toyota dealerships, then they can't expect them to have to spend an extra half hour modifying stuff to get the parts to fit. This is a big reason why they are being so picky about the brake lines being an exact factory fit.
