On my way home today, I am on a 5 lane 1-way road right? and so I pull up to this stop light and next to me is a Dodge Viper, a Lamborghini Countach, a new Vette, and Michael Shumacher in his race car. So everyone except me is revving their engines. The light turns green and everyone kicks it, me included. Immediately I pull away from the Viper and Vette, but Mikey and the Lamborghini are giving me a run for the money. I then shift into 5th and blammo, I start to pull away. About 3 seconds later, I can barely see them in my rearview mirror. Since I was feeling so lucky, I decided to look for some cops to race. Finally I find one. I flashed my brights at him, swerved from lane to lane, and sailed the middle finger for him. He proceeded to follow and the race was on. I then decided to drive by our local Fox affiliate so I could be on their upcoming Scariest car chases part 12. I honk and the guy comes out with his camera. By this time, the cop had finally come up so the chase was on again. Once again, I put him in the dust all the while the camera man caught it on tape. Then I went to our local hummer dealer and atagonized the salesman that my 1991 MR2 NA could offroad better than a hummer. And so we raced in this forrest outside of town. We were neck and neck until I found a lake to lose him in. I proceeded and made it all the way across. The hummer ended up sinking though and later on I saw the salesman swim from the middle of the lake. Unbelievable day, wouldn't you say? Then to top it off, on the way home I run into this cop again. I talk to him and ask him how fast I was going. My speedo said 170 mph ( I had to estimate since the na speedometer only goes up to 140 ) but he claimed that I was well above that in the neighborhood on 188. Wow, who needs a turbo. He asked me if I would trade and I declined and headed home. Now I know some people out there are going to say "Chris, you can't do 188 in a mkii NA!" Please note though that my 1991 NA is by NO MEANS stock. I have done much modifications to it including Ken Farrell shift boot, sony discman cd player, and a new antenna mast, and 2 stock size Falken tires on the back. I also got rid of some weight on the car by taking out my floor mats until my new ones come. Try for yourself's and see! Chris K. 91 NA Also, I found out today that the Bridgestone Potenza RE71's that are the oem tire on 91-92 MR2's, have been discontinued. THis would be the reason I was having so many probs finding them. I don't know if it is all RE71's, but at very least, no more 14" tires. Too bad. Unfortunately I had to resort to getting Bridgestone Tourenza or something like that. H rated, 50k mile warranty BUT NOT RE71's!!! Ah well, treads were showing so the old ones had to go. We will see how these last and if I keep going 188 it won't be long!!! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Jan 1998 19:05:33 EST From: FZZR Subject: Re: on "mint" MR2's and lots In a message dated 98-01-07 19:04:39 EST, you write: << ....I spent a year off and on before I found my '86 - and it was by far not perfect. previous owner hated putting any money into it other than oil changes. They where asking $3000. It needed a new clutch and many other items. He claimed he would get it all fixed. I offered them $2000 as is and they sold it to me. They where happy to just get rid of it. I found out later through my father who is a car salesmen that they made no money on it. Well after a new clutch, new spark plugs, rims, tires, struts, springs, and a zillion gaskets i have less than $4000 in the car and it runs like a top and handles like it is on rails. ****************************************************** Chuck FZZR@AOL.COM 88 MR2 SC (150,000 miles) 89 Yamaha FZR 1000 (40,000 miles) ******************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Jan 1998 19:25:15 -0500 From: Barry Hart Subject: MR2 I need a Bra! It also depends on if you've got a buy here pay here or a new car dealership. New car dealerships usually have newer cars on their lots and there is no way they can have a 100% mark up on that stuff or it would be higher than retail! The price of the car really all depends on what year model the car is in what kind of shape it is in. I'm not saying that used car dealers are getting rich I've seen too many go under to ever make that generalization. I'm just saying that a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and there are a lot of people willing to pay twice what the dealer paid. -Barry Hart ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Jan 1998 19:39:29 -0600 From: "Steve Hoult" Subject: Re: MR2 TSD Rallies >Does anyone on this list do the TSD (time/speed/distance) rallies on >streets (not the dirt ones). Sounds like the Rally you were on is a mixture of pure TSD (route is explicit, not using street names, ie: 3L @ daltons Store).
