We will be driving on the 1.3 mile road track "streets of willow". It will cost $125 a car for all day track driving. This is not a race but a "hotlap" event. last year was sweet. I doubt that the one you are talking about is the one here, but who knows. The salesman at the Toy Store here in San Jose was full of it, so I did not pursue it any further. He also offered to install a turbo on the NA for me. Again, my faith level was low. But if you are interested, they are on El Camino in Sunnyvale @ 408.736.6400 and I am told that they also have another store somewhere on Stevens Creek, don't know the number there. Tell them that you had a friend tell you about a blue NA that they had with some killer mods (joke): exhast kit, intake kit, ignition kit, everything heat taped. Ask them if they still have it and if they can do a turbo upgrade if you find a different NA. Then ask them about the 6cyl conversion. I am not sure if this is the same one, but there is another Toy Store that I see advertised in the duPont Registry. I think that it is called The Toy Store Group though. Their number is 800.255.9102 and they are in Florida. I kinda did alot of searching for the right MR2, and have some 30 car dealers numbers around. Of course I found my car from http://mr2.fyi.net/forsale.html. Good Luck! rick On Sun, 4 Jan 1998, Harry C. Wang wrote: > I live in San Jose and have never heard of this? Although this is an awsome color. I was really in the market for a turbo. The automatic for sure was a turbo, I even drove it for a laugh! I also did not check to see if it was painted, but I did look at the engine, and listened to the turbo gurgle after I got back from the drive. Stevens Creek Toyota is where I think that I saw it. Again, it was not the car that I was looking for, I didn't want red or auto. If this is a car that should not have existed, i appoligize, but I did drive it and did look at the engine. FWIW the engive was very clean, maybe a transplant?? I walked into a local place here in Philadelphia called "Eppies" holding a copy of Car & Driver in my hand just so I had a "reference" of pricing of various Yokos and Bridgestones I was interested in. The owners son looked at the magazine I was holding and said "take the best price in there and add 15%!" I thought to myself that was a really great idea, as they install the tires, properly balance them, and always repair ANY tire you purchase from them FOREVER, FREE, and do it the proper way, by taking it off the wheel and patching it from the INSIDE. Doing that has always been my best deal, figuring $100 per tire (average) for my Bridgestone RE-71's which I like for all my driving except for snow, by the way, means just $15 to mount with new valve stems, balance, and eventually repair the thing! Also, most smaller tire dealers in metropolitan areas, can get you ANY brand and model of tire. For the best service, just tip the guy mounting them at the START of your job, and you just can't rationalize purchasing mail order anymore! - ----- Joe Pearlstein '91 Crimson Red MKII, Past owner of '86 Super Red MKI Philadelphia, PA mailto:nu3y@critpath.org ICQ# 3480202 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Jan 1998 23:22:46 +1000 From: Robin San Subject: MR2 Dwell meter: what is it? I have only one moan however, and that's with the stock stereo system. Mine's got a Toyota radio/cassette in the top DIN slot, and a separate CD player in the bottom DIN slot. It doesn't sound too bad, with those tiny subs behind the seats, but it's not quite up to the standard of the Pioneer CD tuner from my old car. So, to cut to the chase, how do you remove the stock Toyota head units? I can see no visible means of attachment from the front, and a good push from behind the dashboard didn't move them an inch. Is there a simple method, or am I going to have to take huge lumps of the interior out just to fit my Pioneer? Help! If anyone has any ideas, a reply by email would be greatly appreciated, or to the list if you think it's of general interest. You don't fight it. If the officer says your speed wasn't prudent, then you are guilty. My sister lives in Kalispell, MT, and my brother-in-law said that it's pretty nice to be able to drive 80-90 when he has business out in Missoula or Butte. They have long winters and allow studded snow tires, though, so the condition of many of the roads is pretty bad. The bad roads and the farmers in slow pickups and tourists in RVs make it difficult to actually drive very fast on a lot of the roads. According to the folks who live there, you can drive about 80-85 with no problem, but 90+ isn't generally considered prudent. Even when there was a federal 55mph limit, a daytime speeding ticket in Montana was only about $5. They just did this because they were required to enforce it in order to get highway funds. Speaking of which, does anyone remember what happened to the 'Banzai Club' of the '70s/'80s. It was supposed to be group of rich-guys, who would go to extremes to 'secure' stretches of highway (posting people at each exit, tracking on maps, planes, etc) - make the stretch of highway as 'sanitized', then drive like heck. But didn't the stats say 145/max and 135/cruising (or something like that)? If you want those extra 10mph (for long periods of time), you should have been prepared to spend big bucks anyway. I'm sure it all relates to heat, and the removal of it. Water/air intercoolers, oil coolers, radiators, etc. On a side note, I knew a guy who installed an HKS Mk I Turbo for a customer, then took it back out after a few months. The owner would run around Atlanta's loop at 120mph+ for extended periods of time (just about at redline), and experienced piston expansion (with the stock 4A-GE pistons). A couple of months of this, and the cylinder walls had been damaged beyond repair (from the pistons expanding, and scraping the crap out of the walls), the engine was blowing smoke like crazy, and the guy had a new short block installed and had the turbo kit taken out. So add expansion to the list of problems when running those temps for too long. Can someone let me know what voltage equates to what injector duty cycle on an MR2 Turbo ('93)? I have spliced into the #2 injector wire (white with blue stripe) coming off of the ECU. The reason that I am asking about this is that I am seeing 90-100% injector duty cycle readings very early (like 5k rpm, under 1psi of boost). BTW, I'm seeing this with my newly installed A/F meter & inj. duty cycle meter from Racer Wholesale. The A/F meter seems to be working correctly, i.e. goes from lean to rich several times per second when in closed loop mode. I am running pretty rich, btw, in closed loop, even at 15psi, near redline. What I'd like to do is hook up a voltmeter in place of the inj. duty cycle meter, and see what voltages I'm seeing... also apply different voltages to the meter, and see what readings I'm getting. I'm thinking that the gauge is calibrated incorrectly. Thanks for any help you can provide! - -Jamie Dennis - -- Misspellers of the world untie! ------------------------------ End of mr2-digest V2 #61
