The person posting the message does not even post his name. I would be VERY wary of sending anyone money without knowing more about him than just his promise to supply the units. I asked him why he didn't buy one from Jeff when his group purchase was offered last month, but got no reply. If you want a GTech I would suggest you buy one from Jeff Bihn, since he can probably set up another group purchase. BTW, group purchases of 12 or more units can also be set up directly through Tesla, the maker of the units. They will accept the purchase directly through them using a code number which is completly safe. The discount they offer however is not as good as the one offered by Jeff. I've gotten three replies so far for a mini meet in Pcola next Saturday (3 Jan). I'm going to scout out a location this weekend. Plan on lunch, talk, and drives. I haven't been back long enough to put a rally together (too much has changed since I was here last....), but maybe Steve N. can suggest some good roads. Also, for those of you who remember the registry that I was trying to compile about a year ago.....now that I've got the domain and some time, I'm back at it. I'm having some problems getting the form function working, but once I do, I'll post the address and more details. For everyone who submitted to me last year, I still have the info and would like your okay before I put a link to your email or anything, so drop me a line and let me know if you mind that. Look forward to meeting some new people on the 3rd. Brian and Ian...you out there? I have an '86. The turbo had much smaller gates and felt a bit notchier. Mine has long throws and is less notchy. I don't think either is "better" -- they are just different. I have an old truck driver friend with a cheap solution to getting a smaller gate - he just throws on an extension on his gearshift; heh i can just see a 2 foot gearshift on my Mk 1 - maybe an 8 ball for a knob - some fuzzy dice; hmmm, think I'm onto something... No spark plug wires should "pop off" - it means the loop inside the boot is stretched or more likely broken. You should hear a little "click" when the spark plug tip catches. A few weeks ago I had my Mercedes head back on - and was sorting out the "bugs" - one was a strange "blip" in the idle that would come maybe once/2-three minutes. I rechecked all the plug wire boots and you guessed it, one was loose. Mobil 1 can be mixed with dino juice any time. I would try & keep the viscosities similar (20-50 & 15-50). If you drain the crankcase you can use any dino juice you want;drain again & go back to Mobil 1. No harm done. I was thinking about that response to that guy who took his car to Pep Boys - I sounded a bit harsh & sarcastic. The last time I had a place like that (a quick lube oil change) - - was 10 years ago - I specifically told the guy 3.5 quarts and you guessed it - dipstick showed way overfilled. Plus he ruined the drain plug. The story sounded like he took his '85 to Scooter's Fix-um Shop (where we fix anything and everything) and then was surprised that Scooter didn't know where the engine was. Anyway sorry I sounded sarcastic... I do like this list - I think of it as one huge table where we're all drinking beer & swapping stories - from Australia/NZ to Norway/Germany...I will be gone Dec 27th to jan 4th... Bill ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Dec 1997 01:24:25 -0500 From: Anthony DeFeo Subject: MR2 Re: Poppin' fresh wires? The problem with the nologies popping off is due to venting problems. the nologies like most/all wires have a hot air vent hole on the top portion of the wires, this allows hot air from building up inside the plug chamber, and prevent the hot air from the the wires off the plug. The hole in the nologies does not seem to vent as well as it should. I took a very small allen wrench and put it through the hole and carefully moved it around clearing the passage, since i did this three or so months ago my wires have stayed on the plugs. I assume that the vent may get clogged in the future and may need periodic maintaince, to clear any small particles that block the vent. Any harm in this? mine started squeaking (chirping) at ~45k the dealer would "fix it" by doing "something" to it cuz it would stop for a short time. i did not know it was the TOB until i spoke with others. the dealer never told me this was the problem, hence they were never obligated to fix it (clever). so, i went till ~72k when the clutch went out. got it fixed then. the chirping TOB never caused me any problems just embarrassing. for the $$ id live with it...have fun.....turn up the radio... terry ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 23:28:47 -0008 From: TerrySaltzman@home.com Subject: Re: MR2 Mk1 cheep tyres/Nitto? > My BFG Comp T/As have a treadwear rating of 220 (for a Z Rated Tire!) but the > $100 price is for 195/50 15s. > lets say you can go a longer interval on 220 TWR than on 140T WR without replacement, but then again they are not as sticky. this is not good. > What can people tell me about Nitto tires? not much. >If I go to a 16 x 7 rim, I may get > the Nitto 450 in a 205/40 size.
