A note of interest as you all are comparing the MR 2 to the Dino. All of the what Phil said below is true, I feel. Japanese cars of a history of drawing most of the styling inspirations from elsewhere. You see the heavy Dino influences Phil mentioned. Now, check the nose and compare it to a Ferrari Berlinatta Boxer. That's the MR2's nose. Not in detail, but in form. Joe 91T......always refered to it as a jap Ferrari In a message dated 97-12-21 23:39:22 EST, you write: << Greetings, I just happened to be going through my storage boxes and found my old Ferrari book. I thought some might be interested in the Dino history, which was a topic of recent disucssions on the digest. The book states the first street version of the Dino (206GT) appeared in 1968, without Ferrari badging. The car was aimed at the Porsche 911 market, it was styled by Pininfarina, and developed from the "DINO" 206S racer. It had a Fiat built V6 engine. All the Dino's were in fact built by Ferrari, but none carried the prancing horse shield, instead they had a unique 'Dino' badge. Dino himself had little if anything to do with these cars, except sharing his name. He died in 1956 after a long illness, 12 years before the first Dino road car was introduced. Looking at the Dino 206GT (a beautiful car), I am awestruck by how similar it is to the MKII MR2. The same wrap-around rear window, same rear quarter windows, same side intake vents (just a little higher and without the split in the middle), same sculpting in the doors, and of course... a mid-engine. WOW... this really looks like the predecessor to the MKII. The nose is quite different, but other than that the two cars are suspiciously alike. Now I know why I like the MKII shape so much... about 12 years ago I almost took out a second mortgage on my house to buy a gorgeous 1970 Dino from Gentry Lane in Scarborough. They were selling it for $50k Canadian. I absolutely fell in love with that car. There a bad picture here: http://www.resnet.trinity.edu/users/mrobert2/ferrari.htm but it doesn't show the rear end well for good comparison. -- Phil Cutajar '93 MR2-Turbo, Super White, 74k miles K&N FIPK, MR2-PP MBC mailto:Solo2_MR2@ibm.net my web page:http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/6213/index.htm ICQ #6032611 >> ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Dec 1997 18:02:51 EST From: WeyrAbouts Subject: Re: MR2 Xmas In a message dated 97-12-23 16:04:42 EST, felix@crowfix.com writes: << Did y'all know that MR2s are mentioned in the bible? For the summer - it depends on whether the 10-30 is a conventional or synthetic - if conventional I'd move up to a 20-50. If synthetic, fine as is. A car will always "run better" on "thinner" oil, provided the effects of heat haven't reduced the oil to foaming and such. Also if your engine condition is marginal, a thinner oil will have more consumption. So will a synthetic. I use Mobil 1 15-50 in my '86. Strangly consumption is maybe 1/2 liter or less per 5000 miles (8,000 km). I change every 5000 miles - heck, at a capacity of 3.5 quarts it's almost as small a crankcase as a lawnmower...This is unusual for an MR2 but welcomed ;-). Your 10-30 would probably be OK for the summer but if it was conventional I'd be more comfortable raising the viscosity a bit. A thinner oil, BTW is a bit more economical....
