If you look at the 91-93 rear tail treatment, it appears to be designed more as a wing that directs airflow; hence not really a spoiler. The 94+ design seems more aimed at disrupting the airflow. Anybody know what the deal is on this? If the pre 94 wing actually provides any down force (doubtful) I would be interested to know how much. I like the speed sensitive steering that the Del Sol and the Prelude have. The Del Sol hasn't been around for too long. I hope in time, they will spice it up a little bit. When I first saw the Del Sol I wasn't too impressed with the body style. But if you haven't driven one yet, I suggest that you do so. Make sure you drive the V-tech. You might be a little surprised! There was no place for the lights. I thought >that all turbos came with the driving light, but obviously I must be wrong. I have heard that there are very few Turbos without t-tops or sunroof. At least on the earlier turbos. Beginning with the 1993 model all turbos had t-tops standard. The hard-tops seem to be best for racing due to less body flex. The rear spoilers were standard on the turbos and an option on the normally aspirated. Of all the MKII's I have seen, only two or three havn't had the spoiler. The brochures list the foglights as standard on the turbos and not available on the normally aspirated models. Although, I have seen two turbos in this area without foglights. There was also a turbo at Natinals in 1994 that didn't have foglights. The front fascia did go all the way across but the mounting brackets for the lights were there behind the fascia bar. STEVE>< ------------------------------ From: uunet!aol.com!MattMR2 Date: Thu, 21 Dec 1995 21:21:51 -0500 Subject: I gotta a bunch to say OK I'll just rip 'em and read. I have an HKS exhaust for sale, cheap. call me @ 203-454-4429. For model years 1991 thru the first six months of 93, the turbo could be ordered with no t-top Model 3083. Most of these ended up with racers. Also in '91 Toyota mis-built a few with no fog lamps, but probably could be retro fit without too much trouble ie harness is still there. Mark 1, first generation had a 4AGE engine with other similar variants being 4AGLE (FX-16) the G designates twin cam. The 4 and the A identify family and series of engine. The E is emissions (US). The most of the no spoiler cars also ended up in Showroom Stock Racing as required by the rules. Most of these cars also didn't have AC. AC was an option when the Mark 2 (second generation) was first introduced. Best detector for the buck. Valentine One with laser. I won't slow down so I better protect myself. MRJ - Toyota will probably never bring it to the US. Insurance and sales of the MR2 assurred that. Toyota wants to sell mainstream stuff, Camrys, Corrollas, Avalons, trucks etc. Why heck, in Japan, they have a model that has gull wing style doors. VERY COOL CAR. It's called the Sera. It has a 1.5 motor. Now, if they would just bring back the Starlet they have in Japan with all wheel drive and turbo. :-))))) O-rings - Your better off just getting the injector O-rings from a Toyota dealer. They don't cost much. They should have plenty in stock, they fit almost any injector Toyota puts out. I don't know if they're made of a special stuff, but I (IMHO) wouldn't want to replace them after tearing up the injection once before (I'm lazy :-> ). OK I've run out of steam. Just remember HKS exhaust for sale, my wife wants the shed space. Oh yeah, one more thing. Early production of Mark @ (second generation) T-tops had a problem with cracking. As I remember, it was up to serial # 28XXX. Something to do with welding so maybe that is why some of you are getting leaks. Also remember the car is basically hand built. Toyota Sub-contracted to Yamaha to build them. Thats why the plant list is something like central Sagamahari Plant (I don't think the spelling is correct). When I took a plant tour in Japan a few years ago I asked the guide about the MR2 plant. She said it put about 2000 cars a month. The plant we were touring put out about 2000 cars a day (Camry, ES 300, Carina, Coronas and something else). Ive owned a 91 Yellow and currently own a 93 (not Yellow) and autocrossed 'em both with no leaks to the tops. Trust me, I drove to win. :-) Just wish I'd win one Nationals (well there's next year). Again, sorry to drone on with the drivel. ------------------------------ From: Dave Kucharczyk Date: Thu, 21 Dec 1995 15:23:21 -0800 (PST) Subject: 85 MkI for sale Well, I've decided that three cars (two of them being MR2s !) is one too many, so I am putting my 85 MkI up for sale. The engine has been modified as described below. Other than that it is completly stock and everything works. It's almost as fast as my SC car. I live in the San Francisco bay area. FOR SALE: 1985 MR2 ------------------ White w/ black interior 5 sp manual AC, automatic climate control Factory AM/FM Cassete stereo Cruise control Sun roof Factory alarm Supercharged MR2 wheels. ~10K miles on a re-built performance engine. Never been crashed, no body damage. Interior has been taken care of (lives in a garage), motor has always been run on Mobil1, transmission has RedLine MTL. Nearly new Dunlop D60 all season tires. The motor has a ported head with larger intake valves, HKS cams, TRD headers, exhaust system from a supercharged MR2, larger injectors and a 2mm overbore. There is no impact on drivability or gas milage. Runs just like a regular MR2 except the motor has a lot more power. Engine looks and sounds stock, does not leak any fluids, should be good for another 100K+ miles if it's taken care of. Car has current registration and, has passed CA smog. Alignment has been set up for faster transitional handling. 0 toe in, -1 deg camber front, -1.5 deg camber rear, all other setting are stock.
