They orignally sold them in 2 models, without (2.0 coupe or some such drivel) and with (GT). Think spoiler one had more power or something too..anyway, it don't half look stupid doesn't it? They sold them as the GT or something. Basically they were a cheaper car with a low spec engine, etc. They look quite neat, kind of different. I asked the Toyota salesman if they could supply a normal spec MR2 but without spoiler and he looked at me kind of wierd and said "oh no no no, you've got to have the spoiler as it aerodynamically balances the car and it will be all over the road if you remove it, no you can't have one without the spoiler". Usual bull. Does anyone know what boost they have set as maximum? US service manual lists 11.8psi max. I have the April 1990 issue of Automoblie when they did their comparison of the MR2 to the Ferrari 348. There is a picture of a Solar Yellow MR2 NA without the spoiler. Now I know why the majority came with them. They look pretty ugly. Sorry Scott, I hate the Del Sol. Other interesting bit of info, has anyone seen a turbo MR2 without T-tops or a sunroof? A friend of mine called me last night and his brother bought a 91 MR2 Turbo and got the solid roof. He also told me that in his excursions that they ran into a turbo that didn't have the driving lights. The bar in the front fascia went all the way across the radiator opening. There was no place for the lights. I thought that all turbos came with the driving light, but obviously I must be wrong. Later, Shawn shawng@microsoft.com 91 MR2 Turbo (resonator free!) P.S. Also, on that note, what is generally thought of as best Anti-Theft Device/Alarm ? And after having driving about 700 miles so far on Hoosier Radial GT's I have to say they suck. Of course I've only had Yokohama's on my old car so maybe my frame of reference is off, but in my opinion the Hoosier's don't provide nearlly the same grip as the Yoko's. Does anybody know the part numbers for the '94+ rear tail-lights and fascia? I've decided to go ahead and change my 93's rear styling as I really like the 94 look. And to think I actually considered buying an Acura Integra GS-R? In the words of Chris Farley.... I'm so stupid... what was I thinking? ____________________ 93 MR2-T Crimson Red ------------------------------ From: uunet!nsn.net!ampike (Andrew Pike) Date: Tue, 19 Dec 95 09:42:53 MST Subject: Re: mr2-digest V1 #67 I am looking for a goog guide on all aspects of the MR2 Mk1 engine (AW11 models, AG4 engine I think). I intend to rebuild a spare engine I have using a long stroke crank shaft and also improved cams and injection system, however the engine is in very poor condition with a lot of parts missing so I need to confirm what holes are for what sensors etc. I can guess but I would like to double check. I recently bought a used Bel 645stip and had to have it repaired a couple of times so now I am always paranoid that it isn't working properly. This has happened on two ocassions and always at night and over a few small hills: My radar detector will alert me from quite a distance of X band bouncing from a 3 warning to 4 and back down to three. When I finally get over the crest of the hill and see the cop coming at me about 120 feet away, I'll get the warning will climb from 4 to 5. Then when the cop gets to about 20 feet the warning will suddenly jump from 5 to 9. Now is this normal to jump from a 5 warning to a 9? Or maybe it's caused by the hills. Although I haven't personally seen such a car, I do know that it was listed as an option and the Toyota literature did picture MR2s without the rear spoiler. I believe that it was made standard in '95, although it *could* have been '94. Yes, I should know this since mine is a '94, but it was ordered as a '93... I had to get out of my car and lift up the hood to clean out the snow. Do you have the same wiper problem with your MR2, any solution if there is one. - --paste-- I haven't had this problem, but what I do is to brush my car off completely before I go driving. And I mean all over! Sides, front, rear, top, even under the spoiler, simply because I know how much I hate to be driving behind that person who only clears a spot large enough to look through. So next time try lifting up the wipers and cleaning out underneath them before you go driving off. The 91 MR2 brochures show them without spoilers. It was *supposed* to be an option, so I guess there were a couple that they shipped without them. If the idle speed decreased, the valve was open. After the engine warmed up, this test should have no effect. ------------------------------ End of mr2-digest V1 #68
