Ignition Amps (fwd) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: uunet!Rt66.com!cal (Cal Smith) Date: Thu, 7 Dec 1995 00:59:20 -0700 Subject: Back in the saddle again! Hello all, I'm back (remember me? Silver '91 Mr2T with a few low-buck mods...)! Well, all the money I put away for speeding tickets was just sitting there in a pile, so I figured I'd get with the program. Seriously though, it is REALLY good to get back to THE font of knowledge for all things Mr-2. Someone please fill me in on the important stuff I've missed since July, :) Cal ------------------------------ From: Andrew Johnson Date: Thu, 7 Dec 1995 18:36:25 +-1100 Subject: Fog Lights & Cold Air Box.. Digests have been collecting in my inbox, so I apologise for not posting = something sooner... but here goes.. Re: >From: "George T. I would much prefer = Hella >driving lights that would supplement the wimpy factory low beams. Has = >anyone >attempted to replace the foggers with serious driving lamps? Also, if = not, >where on earth would you put a set of driving lamps? In Australia, all SW20/MkII prior to 94 were standard with driving = lights down the bottom - and yes, you are right - they are next to = useless. In fact, as I emailed to Dave Cole in the UK - the Standard pop = up lights arn't a hell of a lot better.=20 I tried a number of combinations to improve the lighting (I have this = funny thing about being able to see where I am going at night!), and = found one of the main problems with the driving lights are there = position. They are great for Fog Lights, but realistically - for driving = lights to be effective they have to be up higher. So.... I rewired the driving lights as fog lights... (so they just go on = from the Fog Light switch), and then proceeded to change the standard = lights with a set of Cibie Quartz Halogen Conversions. These just = slotted in, in place of the Semi- Sealed units and with 90W low BEams = and 130W highs definatly improves the night vision! I believe that = Hella also do a Conversion Kit - but I ended up going with the Cibie as = I have used them before.... Question - ------------- I am currently running the standard air filter in my 91 SW20 (MkII) NA - = I am considering changing to a Fueltronic (Similar to K&N) type air = filter - but also building a cold air box / intake to bring the air in = directly off the side intake? A friend of mine had a lot of success = doing so on his Liberty 4Wd Turbo, but I am unsure as to effectiveness = on a NA... and in this configuration. Has anyone tried this?? and if so = what sort of results?? Finally - --------- As this is my first contribution to this Digest - I must say that I have = been receiving it now for about a month and am very impressed with both = the quality and content... Look forward to the replies... cheers, Andrew Johnson '91 SW20 Melbourne Australia. ------------------------------ From: aly abulkheir Date: Thu, 7 Dec 1995 03:44:44 -0500 (EST) Subject: Ignition Amps (fwd) Forwarded message: >From toyota-mods-owner@CyberAuto.Com Wed Dec 6 21:56 EST 1995 From: aly abulkheir Message-Id: <199512070207.VAA06460@matrix.newpaltz.edu> Subject: Ignition Amps To: toyota-mods@cyberspace.cyberauto.com Date: Wed, 6 Dec 1995 21:07:29 -0500 (EST) X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4 PL24] Sender: owner-toyota-mods@CyberAuto.Com Precedence: bulk Content-Type: text Content-Length: 644 To All, Before I go out and spend my hard earned cash on an Ignition amp like the Crane Hi-6, I want to make sure that no one has had any distributor caps melt or any similar problems from using an ignition amplifier. Also, I noticed they sell an upgraded coil with this. Does a coil upgrade add anything more to an ignition amp upgrade? Or is it a waste of $50? I'm planning on using this along with a TRD Header as my power upgrades. Thanks, Aly, '85 MR2, Red, all options Looking for a little more power, the best handling, and the most cost effective mods. abulkh34@matrix.newpaltz.edu ------------------------------ End of mr2-digest V1 #54
