I only had the 2 6" speakers in the front dash. Now, I'm upgrading my deck, and adding another 2 speakers. Any idea where I could put them? I'm hestitant about putting them right behind the seats against the firewall. Need Advice, John ------------------------------ From: "JOSHAUGH.UK.ORACLE.COM" Date: Thu, 16 Nov 95 12:02:21 GMT Subject: MR2 Speed Records Just for a bit of fun, I thought I'd start a MR2 personal speed record register. I'll try to classify and group the results and either mail them or try to get a web page set up. The speeds should all be on open public roads and try to be on the honest rather than optomistic side. Send me your details in the format: Name: Jamie O'Shaughnessy email: joshaugh@uk.oracle.com Speed: 120mph Type of Road: 2 lane dual carridgeway, A24 Nr. Dorking, Surrey, UK Road Speed Limit: 70 mph Car: 94 MR2 T-Bar NA Mods: None Weather: Wet and raining Occupants/Baggage: 1 passanger, no baggage. Notes: Windscreen wipers not really fast enough for this! Disclaimer: In no way do I recommend, suggest, or encourage that you should brake legal speed limits and I take absolutely no responsibility for your actions. If you get caught, have an accident, etc. it's nothing to do with me, it's your own choice to speed. If anyone objects to this, either in the mailing list, for legal reasons, or in principal then I'll drop the idea. I have the same pblm with my '85. My mechanic thought it was a tie rod bar or something. Had it replaced, still having the same pblm. 2 friends with Mk Is with same pblm. Everytime you go over uneven pavement or a speed bump, it knocks and (subjectively?) the steering feels loose. Would like to know if anyone knows what's the pblm and how to solve it. So the fans were constantly going off and on and off and on. What I did was use a 30 amp relay, and tied it to a key switchable source so that as soon as I start the car the fans come on and stay on as long as the car is on. On my cool down phase, I allow the car to idle to cool the turbo, and then I shut the engine off and then cycle the fans on for a minute or two. I did not opt to use the stock thermostat because of its high 144 degree F turn on. Since the stock "engine cooling fan", was not originally specifically designed to cool the intercooler then the stock thermostat is not really designed to do the job properly. In the tests I ran I found much better cooling with the SPAL aftermarket fan than the stock fan, and better yet if the fan is on as soon as the car is started, and stays on as long as the car is running. Thus keeping the intercooler at an overall lower temp. than the stock fan ever did. You would be suprised just how much difference a 25 degree F drop in inlet temp. makes. It should be worth about 12.5 HP on the Turbo 3SGTE engines, somewhat less on the NA's. - -- + ------------------------------------------------- + + +++ N E C +++ +++ A M E R I C A +++ + + ------------------------------------------------- + + Marc L. Basically, the wires are excellent due to its very low resistance, however, I never heard a side by side comparison with Magnecore. Some swore by it and some at it while I never heard anyone swore at Magnecore including me (Land Cruiser) and my brother (SC MR2). Back in summer '95, I tested the the resistance of Magnecore wires in my LC and Accel's in my friend's LC, it turned out that Magnecore has more resistance with the same wire length than Accel (~ 200-300 more ohms). I am not really sure if less resistance makes better wires. Anyone wants to throw their opinion ? As for Beru plugs, they are just as good as SplitFire. After a few thousand miles its performance goes to dust and you have to regap and clean them again (T/E/L list members experience). Going back to NGK R's usually is the only cure. _______________________________________________________________________________ Thomas F. Wahjudi 1982 Pink Pearl Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40... As I see I'm nearing the rear wear bars after 8000 very fun miles, figured this info might help. This set of tires were TOYO Proxes Z rated (all original sizes for a 93T). I initially put on V rated and they were sloshy, apparenly from the poly sidewalls. The Z rated has steel sidewalls giving a much firmer and more positive ride. But in looking for a new set, what tires will get you around a corner the fastest???? Just for clarification, this wasn't the "quickest" import, as Kevin Wyum ran an 11.86 in his STOCK INTERNALS and turbos(?)--probably not! 93 TT RX7!! In fact, the quickest turbo import was a turbo Honda CRX from the Honda Service Center in Torrance, Ca. that hit an amazing 11.81!! Just wanted to clear that up, since I was there. I'm sure Gerald (88 TWIN char-ger from Cyber Racing, S. Cal.) could tell you more since he probably was in attendance also. Anyway, two things. One. Re - the lowering of intake air to increase HP .... A guy I know said that for 1/4 mile sprints he puts ice on the intercooler ... cools down the air more and increase HP. Two. The same guy has a 91 Turbo (well, he has the SC .. the wife has the 91T). He does not have .net access but wants to know this: in their 91T there is a switch with some japanese writing (and "on" and "off") and a light symbol. When it is turned to the on position, and the fog lights (yellow) are on ... the fog lights turn when you turn the steering wheel (power steering). Cool huh? Anyway, we wanted to know if the US T's with fog lights did this also? (BTW .... MOST MKII MR2s over here have fog lights .. regardless of if they are turbo or not). Thirdly .. (I know .. I said there was only two, but I thought of another one). Has anybody managed to get the pics of the MRJ off the tokyo motor show web page? Could you post 'em to the ftp site so I can download them? The toyota dealer here hasn't seen any pics yet and wants me to send him some!! : ) Ade adem@wairc.govt.nz New Zealand '86 SC T-Top MR2 ... adjustable struts, lowered, cross drilled rotors, new spark plug wires, 4 puck button clutch, larger SC pulley, custom camber top plates ... waiting on TRD springs .. oh, and nutty woman in drivers seat!! >: ) PS.
