I'm pretty sure the turbo itself was upgraded, but they implied there were no internal mods like pistons, rods, etc. I'm not sure about the head gasket. I do remember a Greddy intercooler & some sort of exhaust and air filter mods. I can't remember if the injectors were upgraded or not. - -- Mike Marks '93T, 34k, now hibernating for the long winter :( '85 Dodge Aires, 100.5k ------------------------------ From: dean Date: Wed, 15 Nov 95 09:10:51 -0600 Subject: MKI leaking water pump need advice on fixing apparent water pump leak on '85 MKI Mr2. ------------------------------ From: uunet!dg-rtp.dg.com!miller (Mark T. Thanks for the quick response. It is not the tires (I think) It has brand new Michelin MXV4 tires on it - I did talk to the previous owner, and She said that this problem had plauged her the whole time she had the car, and Classic Toyota, in Durham, could never diagnose the problem. > > MR2's are known for transfering lots of info from the front end to the steering > wheel. Again, maybe it's got some cheap hard It is very hard to describe, but it is not a problem that is transmitted through the steering wheel - it is kind of a clunking, several times a second, but you feel it coming from "under the front of the car" The car dealer said it was "as if" the stut were loose in the strut tower, which it is not. I just figured I would respond by saying that I have seen no such discoloration on my 94T. =( As for the leather seat wear, I'm also at a loss on this subject. I have the tan leather in my car and have not noticed, after recent inspection, the scuff marks on the wings of the back rest or any other part of the seats-- driver or passenger side! The only advice I can give you guys is to see what the dealer might be able to do for you before admitting defeat and paying the price yourselves. If these problems are as common as they sound there is a very good chance you could be compensated for faulty materials. In any case, I'm glad things like this are brought up so that everyone can be more aware of problems to look out for in their cars while still under warranty... it's nice to know that EVERYONE benefits from these posts. +----------+--------------+ +----------------------------------+ |Brent Dye / Columbus, OH |________________| I race, therefore, I make my | |(Fully Loaded) Super Red 94 Turbo @16.9k | insurance company salesman sweat.| |AKA:Red Sled Lic plate:MISTR 2 | He's the one getting the | |Personal Mail: bd112593@oak.cats.ohiou.edu| $212/month! Could be tires. 53K miles is not very much for struts to have gone bad, and even if they were bad, i dont think you'd get the results you described. MR2's are known for transfering lots of info from the front end to the steering wheel. Sometimes too much. The front end is very light, hard to keep wheels balanced, warping rotors, and so on.. All these contribute to fibrations fed to the steering wheel. See if you can find another similar MR2, and drive over the same road. If they both exhibit the same symptoms, I wouldnt worry about it. As long as it tracks, brakes, and turns with no problems, and isn't making any loud knocking, or clunking noises, it's probably OK. You didn't go into much detail about the problem, so i can't say much about it. Again, maybe it's got some cheap hard studded snow tires up front. :) That would surely ruin the ride. mark ------------------------------ From: uunet!dg-rtp.dg.com!miller (Mark T. Miller) Date: Wed, 15 Nov 1995 12:05:25 -0500 (EST) Subject: '86 MR2 front end "rumble/shake?" I am looking at an '86 MR2 with 53,000 miles on it. It is in very fine shape, but has one problem that I have not been able to diagnose accurately: It is a little hard to descibe, but when going over rough pavement you feel a rumbling coming from the hole front end, this is even more noticable if you a decelerating while going over rough pavement. It is very noticable, and you hear it as well as feel it. I had the car up on the rack, and nothing appears to be loose. All the front end components are tight, there is no play in the tie rods, ball joints, sway bar, etc. No matter how I try to manually wiggle the car I can not find anything loose. The best guess from the "front end person" that was looking at this with me is that the stuts simply need replacing. Does anyone know if this sounds correct? Does anyone know if this problem can be due to bad struts, or better yet has anyone seen this problem, and fixed it??! Thanks for any input, since I am negotiating with the dealer, I would appreciate it, if you would copy me directly to any response you might send to the mr2-interest list, as I get the digested version. I've heard good things about Magnecor, and was looking for prices. I've seen them for about $70 US mail-order. While talking with another supplier, they didn't carry Magnecor, but in their words, carried something better. He mentioned Nology Ignition Wires and Beru plugs and claims those would give about +9 hp. Of course, they were pricier, for both about $160 US. This list seems to agree that Magnecor would help increase hp, but I don't believe that I've seen how much. Any insight for someone doing only street driving?
