Also, bolting on a roots-type supercharger would require some serious fabrication work. Just look at the plumbing on a 4AGZE and imagine trying to duplicate that with a 3SGE or a 5SFE, not to mention the circuitry to control the operation of the supercharger magnetic clutch. It would be easier to utilize an aftermarket turbo system. All cars after 92 have been factory lowered, very little though, but the 91 with Eibach springs comes close to the 92+ height.. A lower than this car is problematic, especially if the roads are not very smooth. The best settings I have found with Tokico is pos. 1 for the rear and pos.4 for the front. Do not forget though that the selection of the tires is very importand. The above settings go with GY GDS+ 205/50/16 front and 235/45/17 rear all ZRs and stock tire pressures. All of the above produce a good suspension/tire cooperation. Any change would probably require some parameters to be adjusted again. Yes, I have added all the bits and pieces to update, links etc. The stock 95 struts are NOT adjustable, I dont know why some say they are so...anyhow I have a set here which I ordered to see if there is a change with the spring mount, especially with the front ones, since the clearance of the 91s is just enough for my tire combination. The stock ones have been modified though for an earlier engagement/disengagement since the old ones were not respondind at small travel so effectively. > >Finally, did you try any other alignment setting other than the 95' >factory settings? > NO I always use the standard allignment info, though I would like to increase the caster a bit, since I find the steering wheel very LIGHT at high speeds,,, I understand somewhere in time the power steering has been modified for this...but I have not made this mod. Every oil change interval, I use Wesleys Black Magic, and smear it all over the rubber seals, and expecially around the top. It keeps the rubble moist, and doesn't allow it to dry out. But in your condition, I would suggest that you use some silicone gel, you can get it at most any good auto parts place, it is a gel that is used to seal up ignition systems. Remember it is a gel, that means that it stays in a gel form it is not a silicone sealant or anything like that. It is a real thick gel. If you smear a good coating on the rubber seal where it is leaking, then it should seal up the problem. But it is no substitute for regular maintainance. Let me know how it work. To others, sorry for using up the band width, but I have no way of contacting uunet addresses. Thanks. Subject: Just when I was getting whistful for a little rain.... I'm originally from Oregon, which justly earns its reputation as a rainy, wet place, and I was getting a little whistful for the cool, foggy, drizzly days of Fall. Then it actually drizzled here in San Jose yesterday and the rubber seals around my T-top leaked like a seive (1992 MR2 na). When I bought the car in Oregon a couple years ago it was watertight, but I guess a year in the clear California sunlight has shrivled the seals a bit. I recall reading a posting to the group sometime in the last year about someone smearing the seals with Vaseline, oil, or something. Anybody remember what's worked? Date: Thu, 02 Nov 95 10:37:00 EST Subject: New MR2T Hi Larry, I saw your post about buying a leftover '94 MR2T. I did the same thing in March. I bought it from R&H Motorcars in Reisterstown, MD. Mine is black with tan leather and has every option available. Sticker was $32K, I paid $25K. What did you end up paying? What color is yours? As far as service manuals, I recommend getting the right year for your car. The '95's have only minor changes, but there may be some subtle differences. I bought the two volumes for the '94, and I remember it costing only about $80 total. This was from Russell Toyota in Ellicott City, MD who has excellent prices on parts. I just bought some oil filters for $4.99 and a front-end mask for $99 from them. I started autocrossing mine with 800 miles on it -- figured it was broken in enough and couldn't wait. As far as setup, the stock car understeers badly. If you use the stock tires, raise front pressures up to about 40 and leave the rears at 33. New alignment settings really help. I set front toe out at 1/16" (the hard-core autocrossers use 1/8"), and I reduced rear toe in to 1/10". When you power out of a corner, the weight transfer to the rear causes the front end to plow. Reducing rear toe really helps your ability to power out of corners, but the car will be a bit more tail-happy. I wouldn't go less than 1/16" toe-in on the rear, although I've heard of some guys going with zero toe. You are allowed to install "crash bolts" in the front. These are smaller diameter bolts that mount the strut to the hub carrier and allow some camber adjustment. I used the middle size bolts which gave me about 2 degrees negative camber up front. The small size will give you about 2.5 degrees. My settings are a compromise between street and autocross use, and work well. The front toe-out and increased camber may wear the inside of your front tires sooner, but without it I was eating the outside edges of the tires during cornering, so I think it actually helped balance out tire wear for me. Other recommendations: - Replace stock muffler with straight pipe. Sounds great, quicker turbo spool-up, better high-end, but perhaps a bit less low end, takes about 30 lbs. of rear of car. I bolt the stock muffler back on if I have more than 2 weeks between autocrosses to keep the neighbors happy and to hear my stereo better. - Use synthetic engine oil. I also use synthetic tranny oil (Redline). I have some other posts on autocross setup from some national-class MR2 drivers which I'll forward to you. I live in Columbia, MD -- hope to see you at some local events soon. If you need event schedules, let me know. Of course, since I gave you advice, you have to let me beat you :-). Date: Thu, 02 Nov 95 13:10:00 EST Subject: ASP MR2 I saw your post to the autox list about tire sizes for an ASP MR2 with 16X7.5" wheels. I've never seen an MR2T run in ASP, but I'd like to. I run a '94T in AS. I think that you want wider rear tires than front, depending on the year of your car and suspension setup. I know a guy who tried the same size front and rear on his '93NA and kept spinning it. For SP, I personally would try to go for the smallest overall diameter wheel/tire combo practicable. This would give you a lower overall effective gear ratio and lower the center of gravity. (Look at those CSP cars with their wide 13" wheels.). For a '93+ turbo, you need at least 15" wheels to clear the brakes. A 225/50-15 front and 245/50-15 rear would probably work well if you have enough front wheel offset to clear the strut and swaybar. If you want to stick with your 16X7.5" wheels, you may be limited to a 205 front/225 rear. I think a 215 front/245 rear would work well, but I don't think anyone makes a 215 16" autox tire. You can squeeze a 225 front/245 rear combo on those wheels (BFG recommends a 7.5 to 9" rim width for the 245/45-16), but front strut and swaybar clearance will be really close and may rub depending on wheel offset. In SP, you are allowed to use wheel spacers, so maybe you could install some to add a little clearance. As far as fender clearance, your aftermarket springs should be stiff enough that it isn't a problem, but you may also need to roll the inner fender lip in a little. What other mods have you done to the car? In SP you aren't allowed to change turbo boost, so there's not a lot you can do. New intake and exhaust will help a bit. You are allowed to change the chip and intercooler, but I don't think they make much difference with the stock boost level. Disclaimer: As I said earlier, I haven't actually seen an ASP MR2, so this advice is based only on my experience with my larger street tires. Perhaps others on the MR2 list can offer more info.
