I'm originally from Oregon, which justly earns its reputation as a rainy, wet place, and I was getting a little whistful for the cool, foggy, drizzly days of Fall. Then it actually drizzled here in San Jose yesterday and the rubber seals around my T-top leaked like a seive (1992 MR2 na). When I bought the car in Oregon a couple years ago it was watertight, but I guess a year in the clear California sunlight has shrivled the seals a bit. I recall reading a posting to the group sometime in the last year about someone smearing the seals with Vaseline, oil, or something. Anybody remember what's worked? Dripping in San Jose, Scott ------------------------------ From: "Larry Spector" Date: Wed, 1 Nov 1995 16:30:49 +0000 Subject: new '94T owner questions Well, I've gone and done it- I picked up my new leftover '94 Turbo last night. The dealer really wanted to get rid of the car, so I got an unbelievable deal on it! I plan to autocross it (AS) as soon as its broken in, so any setup suggestions would be appreciated. I've got another question you all may be able to help with- I'm planning to buy the shop manual, and I went to the local (Tysons Corner Virginia) dealer to see what they had. They have '92, '94 and '95 manuals in stock. They want for $65 for both of the '92 volumes as a set, $65 each for the two '94 volumes, and $110 for the '95 manual (looks like they combined them into one). Is there any difference between the '94 and '95 models? This dealer has a "mail-order" discount that anyone can get simply by mentioning it, so I'll get 20% off of these prices. Seem reasonable? The last message he sent to porschephiles indicated that he had over 2000 list requests in his queue! Probably the best thing to do is be patient a little while longer. What it is is the OEM stickers burning off the exhaust. If you look under the car you'll see half-browned pieces of paper there. Wait a few days, it'll go away (Really I think you should pay less attention to the many smells of your car). And BTW, there is no damage from driving on 3 cylinders. However if you really drove on 3 cylinders and could not tell the difference, it's time to sell the MR2 and purchace a Geo Metro. 2. Overheating (Who was that?). Change the radiator cap (in the engine bay). Than let the car run with the cap off starting it when it's cool , and every time the bubbles come up (burp) and the level goes low, add some coolant. Do so untill no more burping occures. That takes good 7-10 minutes, not 30 seconds at the dealership. What you have is common. The bad radiator cap does not hold pressure, allowing vapr to escape and taking in air. I bet it only overheats after a high-speed drive. Mike.S ------------------------------ From: dgh (David G. It is much appreciated if you take care of as many trivial chores as possible automatically. It would also be appreciated if persons who want to POST to mr2-digest, but are currently on secondary mailing lists such as mr2-interest-digest@tta.com or users-mr2-interest@nntp-server.caltech.edu, would unsubscribe to the secondary list and subscribe to the main list by sending the message subscribe The reason is that every would-be posting from a source that is not listed on the list here has to go through me for approval, and that's getting old. Of course I get to eliminate the magazine vendors and a few flames that way, but I'd rather it all worked automatically.
