Well.. I got a knock on the door last Thursday night to find my neighbour from over the road standing there. His dizzy Wife had reversed into the side of my car. Took the door out, the engine cooling slit thing and the rear quarter. Luckily thy admitted liability, so it's presently being fixed..cost about 1000 quid!. Seemingly it was close to a write-off. If the fan, etc had been damaged, they are SO expensive as to make it uneconomical to repair. Thank F**K it wasn't...... (A 93 T w/ power locks) Just a warning, maybe a tip for anyone that get's stuck in this REALLY embarassing (but easy to laugh at later) situation. The cup behind the left hand door handle broke at the holes for the pin that runs through the lock and handle mechanism (the part you touch, not the part inside the door) This jammed the locking lever in the closed position. I wasn't able to pull it open (I tried for quite a while). the right hand door opened and closed fine, as did the windows. I ended up climbing out the right door (this was greatly com[plicated by the large pizza box xsitting on the passenger seat at the time. There isn't much room in the car to negotiate a pizza and yourself over the tunnel. Anyway, the temporary fix was to remove the cup from behind the door handle. One screw. Very easy. I called toyota, and they've already taken car of ordering the part FOC/Warranty. - -mike +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | mikep@diane.csg.mot.com | Email to mr2_faq_request@diane.csg.mot.com | +--------------------------+ with subject "FAQ" for a copy of the most recent| |1993 MR2Turbo #223 FRINGE1| MR2 FAQ. I was re-lubing my front sway bar bushings last weekend when I discovered that there were fatigue cracks all around the body mounts for the sway bar on both sides of the car. In fact, the cracks on the right side are so bad that the mount is just about ready to come out altogether. If you have any significant autocross miles on your MKII I would check the mounts for cracking. Admittedly I have 142K very hard miles on the car, Koni shocks, a 24 mm front Suspension Techniques sway bar and autox on BFG R1's which probably are too much for the stock suspension setup over time. I am in the process of having a friend of mine MIG weld the cracks to regain some integrity of the mounts. We are also going to attempt to weld steel plates over the mounts to provide additional strength so that the mounts don't rip out again in the future. Has anyone out there had to have this done? If so, am I going to looking at potential problems in the future now that this has happened? I would be really gratefull if there's anyone out there who could give me some advice. I've loved having this car for the last 3 years but if it's never going to be the same or I'm going to be presented by a never ending string of garage bills then I may need to think things over a bit. I currently own a '92 non-turbo and would love to upgrade my engine. Unfortunately, almost all real upgrades are offered for the turbo guys. Has anyone considered mounting a supercharger from the '95 Previa to an MR2? I believe that it is the same block so maybe it wouldn't be too tough. Any thoughts? ------------------------------ From: Tom Harrington Automation Date: Wed, 1 Nov 1995 14:01:03 -0800 (PST) Subject: Similar Oil Filter Problems I went to the Toyota dealer to buy a new oil filter. Apparently, there are 2 for the 3STGE. One for the MR2 and one for the celica. I had always bought the one for the mr2. On this trip, they told me that it was phased out, and now the only one they carry is for the celica, but that should work fine. In the past 2000 miles, it seems to be working fine. Things that did piss me off was that my $9.00 oil filter socket that i bought from the dealer for the old filter, does not fit the new filter. That pissed me off pretty good. But otherwise, the new filter type seems to be working just as well as the old one. Thats my .25 cents.... One wheel has some cosmetic damage from hitting a curb but otherwise all 4 are fine. I'm asking $150Cdn/wheel OBO and can ship them anywhere in North America. Yokohama A633 snow tires, stock size (currently on the above wheels). These tires have at most 3000km on them. New they are worth about $130Cdn/tire, I'll sell them for $80Cdn/tire. I'm also replacing my 16" Antera Opus one wheels with the 17" version so I can use even larger rotors. These are three spoke wheels and unlike the imitations which other companies later produced these have the valve stem under the central cap rather then the outer edge for a cleaner appearance. You can see these wheels on my car on Geoff's web site. They are about 1.5 years old, but earlier this year I noticed that two of them had scratches from rubbing against curbs so I spent $300 getting them resurfaced. All 4 look pretty much new now. They retail for about $700Cdn/wheel and I'm willing to sell them at $500Cdn/wheel. G'Day ALL, I'm writing from not so sunny Melbourne Australia (at the moment anyway!). I was wondering if anyone out there had any ideas regarding personalised plates. I was thinking of getting a set but can't quite get the words I want on the plate. For those of you who not in the know, we are somewhat limited here.....only six letter/number combinations allowed! Plates cannot begin with a number! Here are a few that I've thought of "RED-MR2", "QIK-MR2", "MMM-MR2", "EMR-TWO" and "MAAAH2". "MISTA2" and all variations of "MR-TWO" are already allocated. I'd really appreciate it if you MR2philes out there could let me know how you feel about the plates I've mentioned or better still suggest one. Right now Stan is having _MAJOR_ problems some of which are business related and others of which are personal. He is _thousands_ of requests behind on porschephiles mail. That list has many times the volume of the MR-2 list. His priority is that list. When he has time he will get to the MR-2 requests. That may not be for some time. > > Does someone have a phone # for the guy who is supposed > to be taking care of tta.com???? No one can be that busy. Yes - he can. Please don't call him as it would be very impolite. Your problem is pretty insignificant in comparison to what is going on in his life. I don't mean to denigrate your problem. If you find it irritating - put a filter in your mailer software. Please don't bother Stan by calling him - he may just pull the plug on everything if everyone did that.
