I told them to take a hike.. (haha..and come back later of course!!) Well... we went out to a nice smooth road, no cars...lined up at the lights.... (me in my 1991 NA Red MR2)... the light changed, and I was gone!! approx 3 car lengths ahead through first, second.... and as second gear was revving up.. he started to catch me... I shifted to thrid, he was beside me... then he eased past.... ... Not to bad.... he did beat me...no doubt about that... but at 140kph... he was about 2 car lengths ahead...and not moving up any more.... Wait till my K&N filter is in, and I do some more work on the car...hah funny how a 2.2L NA four cyl can give a 5.0L v8 a real good run.. We stopped...and he said he was shocked....the felt his car could have done a lot better.... (sort of depressing when you tell him what your car runs for an engine)..hah... Just thought I'd share this with you... it was fun... - -- Derek Motloch London, Ontario, CANADA jmotloch@mustang.uwo.ca Flame Red 91na Custom ------------------------------ From: Steve Dekorte Date: Sun, 15 Oct 95 17:21:22 -0400 Subject: California Emmisions I'm getting ready to move my '86 (non-turbo with 60K) MR2 to California. Should I expect to have any problems getting it past inspection for compliance with CA emmisions standards? If so, should it cost much to get it to pass? Am I better off selling it before I move? Superchargers have no lag, which makes the motor seem like a higher displacement motor. Unfortunately, it take horsepower to turn it, so you lose power there. For example, in a supercharged MR2, the supercharger draws approximately 50 horsepower! Also, superchargers tend to work less efficiently at high rpms. Another advantage is the fact that the charged air is a little cooler than turbos, because there is no exhaust turbine to give off extra heat. Turbos, on the other hand, absorb no crank power, therefore giving almost free horsepower. Depending on the sizing of the turbine, there is a considerable delay between the throttle opening and boost response. An advantage would be boost control. You can control maximum boost by utilizing some sort of wastegate controller. Turbos need a lot of support lines, ie - oil source, oil drain, and coolant lines. If your looking for streetable power, a supercharger is preferable. If horsepower is desired, turbos offer tons of it, but the more power, the more delay. This has happened twice before but each time I managed to get it free. This time however, it refuses to budge. When the passanger tries to pull the belt, it unwinds only 1/2" or so. Any body else with the same problem (is it the thing with plastic gears here too ??) Thanks Bikram ------------------------------ From: dgh (David G.
